ROHIT SARDANA BIOGRAPHY
Rohit Sardana (22 September 1979 – 30 April 2021) was an Indian anchor and media personality. He had hosted Taal Thok Ke, a debate programme which discusses contemporary issues in India on Zee News. He left Zee News to join Aaj Tak in 2017.[1][2]
He hosted a show called Dangal (translation: Arena) on Aaj Tak which featured debate panels.[5] The show has been compared to Radio Rwanda and he was criticised for demonizing Muslims, encouraging jingoism and strengthening the Hindu-Muslim dichotomy through his show.[6][7][8][9][10] Sardana was considered to be a part of the pro-government media establishment in India and has also been criticised for subservience towards Narendra Modi and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.[11][12][13][14] In 2018, he was awarded with the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Puraskar award by the Government of India.[15]
The 41-year-old Aaj Tak anchor had recently tested positive for Covid-19 but he was active and on his way to recovery. Rohit continued to encourage his colleagues and was amplifying Covid-related posts on Twitter till late Thursday night.
His situation, however, deteriorated on Thursday night, following which he was rushed to Metro Multispecialty Hospital in Noida. He died of a heart attack on the morning of April 30.
The star anchor of Aaj Tak, Rohit hailed from Kurukshetra in Haryana. Rohit was a recipient of the NT Award and ENBA Award for the best anchor as well as the prestigious Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Award for Hindi journalism.
